🌿Just get to the next meal

When our twins were born on April 14, 2009, they arrived two months early and instantly turned our family of four into a family of six.

Lauren was 10. Lexi was 8. I was 40 years old... and before I even opened my eyes on that first morning as a mom of four, I knew one thing for sure:

I was in way over my head!

There were bottles, diapers, sleepless nights, school schedules, sports, laundry, and enough chaos to make me wonder if I had somehow landed on another planet.

During those exhausting days, my incredible mother-in-law, Joan Burns, shared advice I've never forgotten.

She would say... "Lis - just get to the next meal."

And then she'd say... don't worry about tomorrow. Just get breakfast done. Then make it to lunch. Before you know it, you're in the home stretch to dinner. Then—boom—it's bedtime.

Her advice wasn't really about meals. It was about taking life one step at a time, especially during the seasons that feel impossible.

[Joan, if you're reading this, thank you! Your words carried me through some of the hardest—and happiest—days of my life, and I still hear them whenever life feels overwhelming. ❤️]

The same is true with our finances.

Maybe your goal is to build an emergency savings fund, pay off debt, finally get your estate plan in place, or start preparing for retirement. Whatever it is, don't let the size of the goal keep you from taking that first step.

Just get to the next "meal."

You don't have to have everything figured out today. You just have to decide what your next right step is—and take it. That's how lasting progress is made... one small step at a time.

Happy Wednesday 🌿
