🌿Her infamous bag of stuff became a legacy of love

My Great Aunt Abigail—“Aunt Abbie” to us—never arrived at my grandmother’s house empty-handed.
She always had her infamous bag of “stuff”: a half-eaten can of Pringles, a weeks-old newspaper clipping, coupons from stores we didn’t recognize, and always a piece of costume jewelry she thought someone could use.
At the time, we laughed and rolled our eyes. But what we didn’t realize then was that each of those little “treasures” was a gift—an act of love, thoughtfulness, and in her own quirky way, abundance.
After Aunt Abbie passed, we assumed the tradition would end. But soon, that same “bag”—different contents, same spirit—started showing up under my grandmother’s arm, then my mom’s, and now mine.
Just last month, visiting my daughter’s new apartment in New York, I realized I’d done the same—arms full of flowers, housewarming gifts, and yes… my own “Abbie Bag.”
The contents may change, but the heart behind it hasn’t.
When someone walks into your home with a bag full of things saved just for you—big or small, practical or sentimental—it means something. It means you were on their mind. It means they wanted to make your life a little easier, a little lighter, a little more joyful.
True abundance isn’t always about money. It’s about intention. It’s about showing up—with what you have, from where you are, for someone you care about.
So whether you’re passing down a tradition, sharing a home-cooked meal, or gifting something from your closet—don’t underestimate the value in it.
Sometimes the smallest gestures—the ones tucked inside a slightly crumpled bag— are the ones that carry the most love.
Happy Wednesday! 🌿

👉 This week, take one small action to pay it forward—whether it’s sharing a money tip with a friend, revisiting your own financial goals, or simply forwarding this newsletter to someone who could use a little motivation.
