🌿Wednesday Wisdom: Women business owners, look how far you've come!

Updated: Jan 14

So many things to celebrate in October and “National Women's Small Business Month”, which recognizes and honors the remarkable accomplishments of women-owned businesses, is absolutely one of them!

It may come as a surprise, but until 1988, women were required to have a male relative co-sign their applications for business loans. Yes, you read that correctly — this was in place until 1988!

According to the Small Business Administration (SBA) website, the Women’s Business Ownership Act, enacted in the same year, enhanced the SBA’s ability to access capital, enabling it to offer financial support to organizations focused on women-owned small businesses.

By 2019, women-owned businesses accounted for 42% of all businesses in the US and generated $1.9 trillion in revenue. And today, it’s reported that there are more than 13 million women-owned businesses — and counting!

After reading that it's hard not to say... BRAVO, look how far you've come, baby!

More importantly, regardless of whether you own a small business, uplifting female entrepreneurs is an excellent way to say thank you and demonstrate our support during National Women’s Small Business Month and beyond.

By choosing to shop at women-owned businesses and actively sharing and promoting them with family, friends, and neighbors we can effectively show our support.

And if you’ve been toying with the idea of starting a dream business, I hope that after reading this you'll be motivated to finally take that leap!

Just remember to surround yourself with positive role models, like those who have paved the way before us, to inspire and guide you along the way.

A Happy Wednesday to you! 🌿

Warm Regards,

Lisa W. Burns
