🌿 Watching your mom age—no one prepares you for this

There’s a moment in life no one really prepares you for.

The moment you realize your mom is no longer the one holding everything together…and somehow, quietly, that role has shifted to you.

Watching your mom age is that quiet shift that takes time to understand.

I’ve been living in that space lately—and I’m realizing there is no playbook for this.

My mom is 81 and living with Parkinson’s. In March, she spent several weeks in the hospital, and since coming home, recovery hasn’t been easy.

But we’re making progress. Now we’re navigating another transition—moving her into assisted living.

Some days feel manageable; others feel overwhelming. Some days we get it right. Other days… we don’t.

But even in the ups and downs, I’m reminded what a gift it is to care for her now, the way she has always cared for me.

There have been tears, frustration, and exhaustion—but somehow, grace finds its way back in. And we both realize we're doing the best we can.

One day at a time.

If this happens to be a season you’re also in, please hear me—this is not small. This is not easy. And you are not alone.

I’ll be honest—reaching out to friends, family, and trusted resources (see a few below) became my saving grace. It helped me process endless emotions and gave me the clarity to make some really tough decisions.

Give yourself permission to ask for help… or simply admit that it’s hard. Because it is. But know that you don't have to carry this alone.

If you've been through this and have resources to share, hit reply and let me know. I would love to make them available to others.
