🌿Wednesday Wisdom: If your bank is calling, don’t answer. It’s probably a SCAM

Updated: Jan 14

November 20, 2024

Scammers do not discriminate.

And they are becoming increasingly sophisticated, using AI-generated voices to trick people into falling for scams.

The rise of AI voice technology makes these scams more convincing, as they can sound like loved ones or trusted colleagues, which can lead to impulsive decisions under pressure.

For example, a scammer may impersonate a family member in distress, claiming they need money urgently for an emergency.

Falling victim to these scams can result in significant financial losses and identity theft, as scammers may gain access to your bank accounts or sensitive personal information.

In some cases, it could also harm your relationships if you unknowingly share confidential information that later puts others at risk.

To protect yourself keep in mind:

. . . Always be cautious if someone claims to be a loved one in distress.

. . . Never share sensitive information like passwords, account numbers, or social security numbers over the phone, especially if the call was unsolicited.

. . . If in doubt, hang up and call the person directly using a known phone number to verify the request.

. . . Be aware of pressure to act quickly or requests for wire transfers.

Remember, scammers do not discriminate. People of all ages and backgrounds have fallen victim to them as well.

Protecting yourself—and your loved ones—from these scams safeguards not only your financial security but also your personal safety and peace of mind.

Here's to a Happy Wednesday! 🌿

Warm Regards,

Lisa W. Burns
