🌿My twins turned 17 and it hit me

Yesterday, my youngest two turned 17 (OMG, 17!), and I found myself sitting with that number a little longer than usual.
I have four incredible children. My daughters, Lauren and Lexi, are 26 and 24 and are out on their own, building lives that make me incredibly proud.
Then there are my boys, Jimmy and Joey—twins, just now 17 and in their junior year of high school.
And what 17 really means, at least in my world, is that we are getting closer to a major transition.
In a little over a year, they will likely be heading off to college, and Jim and I will step into a chapter (GULP!) we have never experienced before: becoming empty nesters. 🫤
There is pride and excitement in what lies ahead for them, but also a quiet awareness that time is moving quickly. This full, busy, often chaotic season of all four kids under one roof is coming to a close.
The truth is life’s biggest transitions—kids leaving home, a career shift, or a financial turning point—rarely happen overnight. They build slowly, and then suddenly, we are in them.
So what would it look like to start preparing now?
To begin, even in small ways—having conversations, revisiting goals, and making thoughtful decisions that support not just where we are today, but where we are going.
The next chapter is coming; we know that for sure. Let’s embrace it, prepare for it, and remember that change is not something to fear, even when it feels a little bittersweet.
If you’re an empty nester, hit reply and share how you prepared. This mom would love to hear it! 💚
Happy Wednesday! 🌿
